Throwback Thursday

Ballparks don't look like this anymore. We're at Veteran Stadium for a Phillies/Giants game in the summer of 1984. Hall of Famer Steve Carlton pitching to the Giants' Jeffrey Leonard -- native of Philadelphia. Artificial turf; sliding pits, but no basepaths. What else grabs your attention in this image?

Is that a bullpen in front of the dugout?

I believe it's a mound for pre-game warmups. I'll check with some inside sources and get back to you.

I attended at least one game every year at Veteran's Stadium from 1972 to 2008. usually when the Mets were there. In my opinion, the Vet was a much better place to see a baseball game than Shea Stadium! My friends and I used to call Shea, S**t Stadium!
