The Well-Traveled Jimmy Paredes
Jimmy Paredes is now with his sixth organization in a 10-year career. Originally signed out by the Yankees of the Dominican Republic, he's since moved onto the Astros, Royals, Orioles, Blue Jays and now the Phillies -- who picked him up on June 1st after he was DFA'd by Toronto. Sunday, he enjoyed his first imporant Philadelphia moment: a three-run home run that extended the lead in what became an 8 - 1 win over the Brewers.
Last year, the switch-hitting Paredes looked like he was coming into his own with Baltimore, where he smacked 19 home runs. But in mid-May of '16, the Orioles waived him; he then quickly came and went through Toronto.
Philadelphia might offer his best chance to succeed: a club short of quality outfielders that plays in a small, homer-friendly ballpark. OK, OK, one game doesn't make someone a star... or even another Odubel Herrera. But at least Paredes -- after becoming U-Haul's best customer -- is moving in the right direction.
