On This Date in 2005...


Carlos Beltran signed with Mets. On the heels of a tremendous post-season where he brought the Astros to within a game of a National League pennant, the switch hitter came to New York for seven years and $119 million.

A year later, his team would again reach the NLCS -- and again, despite playing very well, fall one game short.

Unfortunately, his signature Mets moment would be that final at-bat of the 2006 NLCS: when he took a called strike three with two out, the bases loaded and the Mets down by two.
