June 5th, 2015: Ambidextrous A's reliever Pat Venditte becomes the first switch-pitcher in modern baseball history when he tosses two scoreless innings in Oakland's 4-2 loss to the Red Sox in Boston.

June 5th, 2012: Eleven years to the day after being drafted 38th overall by the Mets, David Wright becomes the club's all-time run leader in runs scored. Number 736 comes on a home run during a 7-6 loss in Washington.

June 5th, 2008: Chipper Jones becomes the third switch-hitter ever -- joining Mickey Mantle and Eddie Murray -- to reach 400 career home runs. It's part of a four-hit game by the Braves' third baseman as Atlanta's outscores the Marlins 7-5.

June 5th, 1997: Alex Rodriguez hits for the cycle in the Mariners 14-6 win over the Tigers in Detroit.

June 5th, 1995: Tim Raines sets a new American League record with his 33rd consecutive stolen base, in the White Sox 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

June 5th, 1992: Eddie Murray drives in two runs to pass Mickey Mantle as the all-time RBI leader among switch-hitters.

June 5th, 1986: Casey Candaele makes his major league debut as a pinch hitter in the Expos 7-3 loss to Philadelphia at Olympic Stadium. The son of Helen Callaghan, a center fielder in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, becomes part of the the only mother-son combination to have both played professional baseball.

June 5th, 1985: Dennis Martinez of the Orioles tosses a one-hit shutout over the Angels for his 100th career victory.

June 5th, 1970: Al Kaline singles off Blue Moon  Odom for the 2500th hit of his career. The Tigers Hall of Famer would reach 3007 before retiring.

June 5th, 1965: Mel Stottlemyre hits a home run -- and works all 10 innings, as the Yankees edge the White Sox 4-3. Mickey Mantle also homers, while Elton Howard wins it with a walk-off single, driving in Phil Linz.

June 5th, 1963: Mickey Mantle breaks his foot trying to catch a fly ball by Brooks Robinson. His foot is caught in the chain link fence at Memorial Stadium, an injury that will cost him over 60 games. The Yankees hang on for a 4-3 victory over the Orioles.

June 5th, 1957: Don Drysdale throws the first of 49 career shutouts, in the Dodgers 4-0 victory over the Cubs in Jersey City.

June 5th, 1937: Pennsylvania native Stan Musial signs with the Cardinals organization as a pitcher. After injuries force a position change, he'd reach the majors a little over four years later and become one of the greatest hitters of all time.

June 6th, 2017: Scooter Gennett becomes the 17th player -- and first in the Reds 135 year history -- to hit four homers in a game. Cincinnati crushes the Cardinals 13-1 at Great American Ball Park.

June 6th, 1990: In George Steinbrenner's 18th managerial change in 17 years as Yankee owner, Carl "Stump" Merrill replaces Bucky Dent.

June 6th, 1980: Tommy John tosses a complete game, two hit shuout for his 200th career victory as the Yanks blank the Mariners 3 - 0 at the Kingdome. Bobby Brown and Bobby Murcer take care of the offense, each blasting a home run.

June 7th, 1970: The Cardinals, down 7-1 early, roar back for a 10-7 victory over the Padres. A highlight is future Hall of Famer Ted Simmons' first major league home run.

June 7th, 1959: The Cardinals signs Memphis high school star Tim McCarver to a then-team record $75,000 bonus.

June 7th, 1954: Roy Campanella, who hit a home run earlier in the game, steals home in the top of the 12th for the insurance run in the Dodgers' 7-5 victory in St. Louis.
