Return of the Polar Bear
After a miserable opening weekend where he went 1-for-11 with five strikeouts and no walks, Pete Alonso finally flashed the form that made him 2019's NL Rookie of the Year. He crushed a 4th inning pitched into (and bouncing out from) the Monster Seats at Fenway Monday night -- doubling the Mets lead to 4-0, as they cruised to their first easy win of the season.
While it's too early to consider the fourth game of a season a turnaround -- even one designed to run 60 games -- the Mets will always recall how therapeutic those game three and four wins were in erasing a sluggish start to the 1986 World Series.
