Something Now... and Something Then

Last night, Carlos Carrasco took his first big step toward returning to the Mets -- working three innings and giving up a run, two hits and a walk.  He was efficient, using just 33 pitches and getting the majority of his outs on ground balls.  With Max Scherzer now a question mark with neck spasms, Cookie can't back to Citi Field quick enough.

(Below)  10 years ago today, May 10th, 2013, Cardinals rookie righthander Shelby Miller gave up a single to Colorado's Eric Young Junior to open the game -- and then retired the next 27 consecutive batters for a complete game shutout.  Miller has bounced around a lot in the decade since; in 2022, he was working out of the Scranton-Wilkes Barre bullpen when I caught him in action.  This season, he's back in the majors with the Dodgers.
