If it's June, it must be time for (Kyle) Schwarbombs! The Phillies left fielder and reigning NL home run champ has a history of going into high gear during June, and he did it again Sunday afternoon with a pair of homers and six RBI as the Phillies crushed the Nationals in DC.
Below: While we're talking Sunday home runs, a shout out for Eddie Rosario of the Braves. The 2021 post-season hero turned around yesterday's game against the Diamondbacks with a top of the 9th grand slam that put Atlanta ahead to stay.
We learned over the weekend of yet another setback for Stephen Strasburg. The Nationals' onetime co-ace and 2019 World Series MVP is now dealing with "severe nerve damage" and has been shut down again. He has appeared in just eight games (winning only one) since landing a seven-year contract extension the following winter. Ironically, I snapped this photo at 2013 Citi Field game where he was matched up against Matt Harvey, the Mets star-crossed ace, whose career was shortened by a series of arm injuries.
Below: T.J. Hopkins made his major league debut with the Reds over the weekend. One of the many impressive Cincinnati prospects I saw recently against the Syracuse Mets, the University of South Carolina product hit .341 while getting on base nearly 44% of the time in 50 games for Louisville.
