Raul Rocks Braves

Image
High-fives for Raul Ibanez, whose 2010 season has been a reverse of his '09 -- this time around, a sizzling second half following a sluggish start. Last night, his bottom of the 8th inning double drove in the only run of the game as the Phillies capped a three-game sweep of the second-place Braves with a 1-0 victory -- Philadelphia's 10th win in a row.

Robbie Cano - Dontcha Know!

Robinson Cano's bloop double to left field in the 7th innings drives in a pair of runs and breaks open the Yankees - Rays game. New York went on to an 8 - 3 victory in the showdown series between the top two teams in the AL East.

Werth it!

Jayson Werth's two-run walk off homer in the 9th capped a 4-run rally as the Phillies pushed past the Nats 7-6 on Sunday. Now with a three-game cushion atop the division, they await the Atlanta Braves for the next three at Citizens Bank Park. It's the first of a home-and-home pair of series between the top two teams in the NL East in its final two weeks.

Here Come the Rays

The showdown series in the American League East begins Monday night the 20th, as the Yankees host the Rays. Tampa Bay's core of young stars includes center-fielder BJ Upton (above) and 3rd baseman Evan Longoria (below). Carl Crawford (above), who'll be most sought-after free agent this coming winter. And 1st baseman Carlos Pena (below) will also draw lots of interest. Reid Brignac has hit 3 of his 8 home runs this season against the Yankees -- including the game-winner last Monday night.

Hey, We're on TV!

When Dennis and I went to the Phillies/Astros game, his wife Sue called his cell after spotting us on TV. Being four rows behind the visitors dugout on the 3rd base side, we popped up on the right side of the picture almost any time the camera zoomed in on a righthanded batter. Dennis is in the gray cap with sunglasses. Look to his left, there's a fellow whose face is obscured by a large black camera. Yep, that's me.
