If Your Birthday is March 27th...

...you share it with baseball's best catcher, Buster Posey. The heart and soul of three Giants championship teams this decade, he's been an MVP and Rookie of the Year over his eight big league seasons. And he's kept his lifetime batting average over .300. Odds are strong you'll see his name on a Hall of Fame plaque one day.
There's already a plaque in Cooperstown -- and another in Yankee Stadium's Monument Park -- for Miller Huggins. The manager of the first Yankee dynasty shepherded the team lead by Ruth, Gehrig, Earle Combs and Tony Lazzeri, all of them Hall of Famers.
OK, Huggins had the horses. But almost 90 years after his death, he is still widely credited as the only manager to earn Babe Ruth's unquestioned respect. Miller Huggins, who also played for the Reds and Cardinals, was born March 27th, 1878.
Also on our March 27th birthday parade:

Matt Harvey, who again is battling back after season-ending surgery. Last year's ineffective 4-10 record was a likely a result of thorasic outlet syndrome, which put him on the shelf in early July.

Harvey's teammate Brandon Nimmo. The outfield prospect saw action with the 2016 Mets, but will likely start this season on the disabled list, after a hamstring injury in the World Baseball Classic.

Let's toss in a couple of ex-Mets: outfielder Michael Cuddyer, who ended his career as a member of the pennant winning 2015 club.
Catcher Johnny Monell, a Bronx native who appeared in 27 games for the 2015 Mets.

OK, time for players from other zip codes with birthdays today:

  • Jake Odorizzi, who went 10-6 pitching for the '16 Rays.
  • Dick Ruthven, a solid number-two starter with the Phillies and Cubs. His best season came in 1980, when the Phils won their first World Series.
And we remember Wes Covington, a power hitting outfielder with the Phillies of the early and mid-1960s, who passed away in 2011.

Our baseball birthdays on this Monday of the final week of Spring Training.
