Patch Time: Kansas City Edition

Jakob Junis is our spokesmodel today -- as we get a good look at the Kansas City Royals' patch commemorating the club's 50th season.

The Royals were one of baseball's four expansion teams in 1969, joining the American League just a year after the A's split for Oakland. Owner Ewing Kauffman took the slow, cautious path to success, building an organziation based on developing talent from within. It paid off in 1976, when the Royals made the playoffs for the first time. They finally outlasted the Yankees in the 1980 ALCS and reached the World Series. Five years later, they stunned the cross-state rival Cardinals for their first championship. KC won its second title in 2015.
