Friday Batting Star

A huge individual game Friday night for Twins shortstop Jorge Polanco, who hit for the cycle in the opener of an inter-league series at Philadelphia. He's the first player to do it during 2019; the 11th in Minnesota franchise history and first in a decade since Michael Cuddyer. And he did it on a rainy, chilly night, conditions usually not conducive to a lot of offense.

  • For history buffs, Hall of Famer Rod Carew had Twins' first cycle, in May 1970.

But I've got a hunch Polanco would give it back in exchange for a more positive outcome. The Phillies jumped on Jake Odorizzi for five 1st inning runs and led all the way, winning 10-4. Proof of baseball being the ultimate team game.

(My image of Polanco is from a  September 2017 Twins/Yankees game in the Bronx.)
