On This Date in 1977...

Mickey Rivers goes 5-for-5 and drives in three (including the go-ahead run in the Top of the 7th), as the Yankees outscore the White Sox 8-3.  More vitally, they pass the Red Sox and take over the AL East lead.

Also worth noting: Graig Nettles had a three-hit night, including a three-run homer; Mike Torres tossed a complete game, scattering 11 Chicago hits at Comiskey Park;

Billy Martin's club will stay on top of the division for the rest of the regular season and roll past the Royals and Dodgers for their first World Series title in 15 years.

(My image of Mickey Rivers is from the Yankees 2015 Old Timers Day.)
